Veneer Process

veneers processSan Francisco, Marin, and Oakland, CA

Transform your smile by receiving veneers from the team of cosmetic dental professionals at Glen Park Dental. Once installed, a veneer improves the appearance of a tooth that is uneven, chipped, cracked, discolored, or worn.

Here is some more information about our veneers, and what you can expect during the procedure.

What are veneers?

Veneers are ultra-thin porcelain (or sometimes composite) coverings that are bonded directly to the front surface of your teeth. The material used to fabricate veneers provides the same light reflecting quality of your natural teeth. They can even be color matched to blend in with your smile or a whiter shade can be achieved for an overall improved look.

Planning your veneer procedure

The number of veneers you may need will depend on what cosmetic issue you are trying to address. If a veneer is being placed on a chipped or cracked tooth, or to cover a gap between two teeth, then it may take just one or two veneers to resolve this aesthetic issue. However, a full set of veneers might be needed to improve all of your teeth that are visible when you smile.

Our veneers

At Glen Park Dental, we are proud to use veneers made of top-of-the-line dental porcelain. Our porcelain represents some of the finest materials available in cosmetic dentistry. To aid in the color-matching process, we do suggest having your teeth whitened through one of our professional whitening procedures before receiving a veneer. Our LVI training ensures we can provide elite dental care with every cosmetic dental procedure we perform.

Our procedures

The installation of a porcelain veneer entails having a very small portion of your tooth enamel removed from the front of the tooth. This removal lets the veneer make a flush bond against the tooth, thus discouraging the build-up of bacteria or plaque. We can administer a local anesthetic or even light sedation to make sure this procedure is as comfortable as possible for you. We will also take impressions of your mouth, which are used as a guide to fabricate your veneer. A temporary restoration is placed, and the permanent veneer is installed onto the tooth at a follow-up visit.

After your veneer procedure

Good oral hygiene will extend the lifespan of your new veneer. That means brushing twice per day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist every six months for a professional cleaning and an examination of your oral health.
