What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a revolutionary method of straightening teeth. Traditional braces, although effective, are noticeable by others, can be uncomfortable with wires poking inside the mouth, and treatment lasts longer. With Invisalign, instead of metal brackets cemented to your teeth, we use custom-made clear aligners that do the same job – make your teeth straight, but in a fraction of the time!
The best part about Invisalign is that they are clear, so no one will really notice them, not even you! Plus, they are sleek and comfortable, unlike metal braces.
What is the difference between Invisalign and “instant orthodontics?”
Invisalign uses clear aligners to straighten your teeth slowly over time. Instant orthodontics uses veneers to reshape your teeth, making them appear to be straight. However, veneers require a small amount of tooth structure to be removed, and then the thin shells of porcelain are permanently bonded to your teeth. This means that veneers are a permanent fixture to your smile. Using this method of making teeth look straight is effective and yields exceptional results. However, Invisalign is an even less invasive method of getting straight teeth.
How long do I wear the aligners?
The aligners are to be worn for a minimum of 22 hours every day. However, you can remove them when eating or for special occasions. You will also need to clean them regularly, just like your teeth.
I had braces when I was younger, but the results didn’t last. What’s the use in getting orthodontics again?
Many adults had braces as teenagers, but sadly, did not comply with wearing an oral appliance (retainer) after their braces were removed. This results in teeth shifting out of alignment again. As an adult, you are more likely to comply with treatment, and your teeth will remain straight as long as you wear your retainer as prescribed by the dentist.
It is also important to have straight teeth because it helps improve your oral health. Straight teeth are much easier to clean and floss. Plus, an even bite will feel comfortable and relieve any jaw or mouth pain that you may be experiencing.
How long will it take to get results with Invisalign?
Length of treatment will depend on each case. However, most patients should expect to reach their desired results within six months to two years. During your consultation, your San Francisco cosmetic dentist will determine the approximate length of treatment for you to reach your desired results. Keep in mind that your compliance with the program will affect the length of treatment necessary to achieve desired results.
Can Invisalign be used in combination with other cosmetic dentistry services?
Yes. Invisalign may be used as a stand-alone treatment or as part of an overall smile makeover. It is possible that some patients may wish to have whiter, brighter teeth, which can be achieved through our professional teeth whitening service, while other patients may need missing teeth replaced with dental implants, teeth capped with dental crowns or other restorative and cosmetic dental procedures.
No two smile makeovers are the same, which is why at Glen Park Dental we devise a specific treatment plan that will meet your smile needs. During your consultation, be sure to address all of your concerns regarding your teeth and smile. Our goal is to provide each patient with exceptional results that last.
