Do you have missing teeth? The cosmetic dental team at Glen Park Dental can “bridge” the gap by installing a custom made dental bridge.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge can replace one missing tooth or multiple lost teeth that were adjacent to one another in the mouth.
Bridgework consists of a tooth replacement (known as the pontic) with an abutment at either end that fit over your remaining natural teeth or dental implants that reside on either side of the space, essentially “bridging” the gap.
Glen Park Dental offers the following type of bridges:
PFM bridge: Consists of a metal sub-structure, covered with high-grade dental porcelain. The interior metal shell makes a bridge more durable, and ideal for positions in the mouth that endure more stress such as the back teeth (molars).
Metal-free bridge: Made completely of the same high-grade dental porcelain used in PFM bridges, this type of bridge is best suited for highly visible areas of the mouth, such as the front teeth, or for patients who suffer from a metal allergy. Not only does this porcelain reflect light in a fashion similar to the natural enamel on your teeth, but we also can match the bridge in shade and color to look just like your remaining teeth.
The benefits of bridges
Cost: A dental bridge is one of the most economical tooth replacement options in the field of restorative dentistry.
Stability: Unlike dentures, which can slip and must be removed from the mouth to be cleaned, bridgework is bonded directly into the mouth. This means you can continue to eat and chew any of your favorite foods. And cleaning a bridge is a breeze; just brush it like you would your other teeth.
Durability: The average lifespan of a dental bridge is 10 years, which is significantly longer than dentures. A patient with bridgework can further prolong the lifespan of the restoration by practicing a good regimen of oral hygiene that includes daily brushing and flossing, in combination with twice-yearly visits to your dentist for a professional cleaning and thorough examination.
